That Devil, Peace

Thor/War. Isn't he just too cute? Couldn't ya just eat him up? Posted by Hello

Dear God, Give us this day our Daily War, and forgive us our Peace-thoughts, as we forgive those who think them against us. And lead us not to the temptation of the Peace Table, but deliver us from Evil, forevermore, Dear Lord, Amen.

Dear God, On this Memorial Day, please bring us more war. Only one of my nephews is serving You in Iraq, and I have three more fresh, young bodies to contribute (another nephew and two nieces). If you'd only give us a few more wars -- say, in North Korea or Iran? -- then maybe they could go and serve You too. Amen

God societies depend on brainwashing us to adore war. So forget about dumping war. It won't happen. Not as long as we glorify male gods.

I disagree with your concepts actually. Which "godess" will you replace God with? And how do you plan to do this?
I'm sorry you think God isn't all loving, because he is.

Thank you for posting, ash kash. Unlike your god, the Goddess was worshipped all over the world NOT because people were tortured into it, but because they naturally adored Her. Through the millennia, god writers broke the Goddess down, calling Her by Her many separate functions and by the different names She had in different parts of the world. If such a system had been applied to your god, he too would be a mass of separate "gods": Almighty, Lord, Holy Ghost, Sun of Righteousness, Christ, Creator, Lawgiver, Jehovah, Providence, Savior, Redeemer, Heavenly Father, etc., etc. As for your god being "loving," you have been brainwashed into thinking that. A god who calls for war, death and/or smiting in every other paragraph (see your Old Testament) is not loving.

Thanks for your response!
My God is not a "mass of seperate 'gods'" but rather a God so complex that no one name can properly define who he is. Those (names you stated) are all different aspects of the same God.

I have not been brainwashed. Those wars you speak of, when read in context, were the result of years and years of blatant disobedience and were not without warning. Have you read the whole Old Testament and/or studied it under a professor or individual who has spent their lifetime researching the history/culture/etc behind the books? Is this how you've formed this opinion?
Secondly, have you read the New Testament? It speaks of the same God of the Old Testament. As opposed to guessing what the Bible says, I challenge you to pick it up and read it, or if you can't do that, ask someone who has read it what it actually says.
Since you have brought up the Old Testament, here's a small sampling of the grace and love (of God) that is displayed in it:
"He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God" Micah 6:8.
Does this portray a God of vengeance or of mercy?
From the New Testament:
"Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins."
1 John 4:8-10

By saying these things I am not attempting to change your mind, obviously we have very different veiws of God, which have been brought about by our different upbringings and backgrounds (etc). However, my intention is to let you know that perhaps before you decide on what God is or is not, or does/does not represent, to look at more than what's been pointed out to you and search a bit further. If you have no intention of doing that, that's fine. But just as I will not assume to know more than I do about your god (and had I the desire to form an opinion I might look into it a bit more), it would be appreciated if you could do the same in regards to beliefs that are not your own.

ash kash, I love you. I come from a deeply Christian background and am well versed in the Bible. I woke up thinking about you this morning, and worrying about my response to you yesterday. It's not you I dislike, or other Christians, Muslims, Jews, and Hindus. It's the gods you worship that make me roar in anger and rage. They are deadly to my people, the human race. They have wreaked havoc upon us. History makes it plain as the nose on your face that all these gods -- Allah, Vishnu, Jehovah -- were forced upon us via threats, pain, torture, and the torture of our loved ones. Can you deny this? Have you read history? Can you send me passages from historical texts proving otherwise? You cannot. So then I have to ask this: Why would a loving deity need to force himself onto people through torture? BUT SEE, I know you will have some kind of answer to this that feels good and safe to you. Because you have been brainwashed, dear. I will end with this: I have read your Bible. Will you read my blog?

Was it the diety that forced religion or was it the people?

Athana said...

The deity.

Athana said...

ash kash, I say "the deity," because the people would not have done it without prompting from the deity.

Ash - consider the phrase "all gods are Goddesses, and all Goddesses are one Goddess". She takes the form we choose for Her, or the form She chooses for us. Call any name you choose when you pray, the same ear hears us all. Unlike your deity, She is not so jealous that She damns us for our errors.

"All gods are Goddesses, and all Goddesses are one Goddess". This feels like something that belongs someplace prominent -- like a letterhead, or a car bumper. Or maybe one of those little metal thingies CEOs have on their desks with their company motto emblazoned across them.

afterthoughtcomposer said...

No offense, but that sounds like a pretty self-serving god. So is that the goal of said goddesses (or goddess), to please the individual's needs?
"She is not so jealous that she damns us for our errors"....so then, what are the standards? Are there any?

Athana said...

No offense taken. It is indeed one of the main goals of the Goddess to please her children, and to instruct them to enjoy themselves, to fall in love with life.

The standards are much the same as for you -- with some important differences. I think Yahweh stole his best standards from the Goddess. I think Jesus, too, was stolen from Goddess religion.

Well, it makes me sad to read this blog. You believe that I've been brainwashed and I believe that it's you who has. If your goddess is more powerful, it will be shown eventually, as is the same for this end: I believe God is more powerful, most powerful, and loves you too much to let you go. It is out of our hands now, God will protect me, and I will pray for you. Blessings.
