Shipping SIR GEORGE TO IRAQ

With the Goddess, punishment’s out, teaching’s in.

For Dubya, impeachment’s no good. Nuh-uh.

We need to rip up Dubya’s citizenship papers and send him ones from Iraq.

That way the boy could learn what it feels like when a booby bombs the bejeesus out of your homeland so’s to steal your stuff better.

He’d learn to live minus rights he’s tried to crush: habeas corpus*, the right to privacy, and – for many Americans – the right to water, electricity, and a safe place to sleep at night.

That boy George needs a bit of tough love from The Mother -- and he needs it fast.

And considering the tons he needs to learn, I’d say shipping him pronto to the cesspit he’s made out of that once proud nation, Iraq** would be just what the Mother might order.
____________
*”Habeas corpus” just means No dude can lock you up without good reason. Used to be dudes could pitch your bod in jail and throw away the key. Without any reason, without telling anyone. King George wants to bring that back. It’s almost too weird to believe, but it’s true.
** Although Iraq’s going to bounce back someday. And when she does, she’ll hopefully be more centered than she is now around her ancient Guiding Goddesses.

Oh, Goody, Goody!

If you’ve jumped up and down and said, “Goody, goody” about this weblog, you will definitely want a copy of my new book, Switching to Goddess: Humanity’s Ticket to the Future.

Switching’s index will make it easy as pudding to find all those lovable old Radical Goddess Thealogy characters: the Daddy War Lords, Con Dude, Auntie Athana, Jesus the Conditional Lover, YAJ the Great, and Jumpin’ Jehovah, for starters.

About the only person missing is Cousin Doris (sorry Doris, maybe next book).

Switching dances with pages about how the Goddess leads to peace, plenty, and pears and plums for breakfast.

It simmers with pages explaining how the gods have pushed the Goddess underground for a while, but how She’s bouncing back.

You can even pre-order the book right at this moment.

Tap your keys on over to Amazon.com and enter Switching to Goddess in the search box. Or, click on Switching’s cover picture to the right.

Auntie Athana promises you won't be sorry you did.

BARBARA WALKER Interviewed!!

This just in from Karen Tate, author of the Voices of the Sacred Feminine radio program. This Wednesday she'll interview one of the Great Mothers of the Goddess movement, Barbara Walker.

I don't know about you, but IMO, of all the grand leaders in the Goddess movement, Barbara Walker is the most reclusive and mysterious of them all. So this is something you won't want to miss!

The show begins at 6 pm on the Pacific Coast and 9 pm on the Atlantic. I'd advise to get to the radio site a little early to scope out how it works.

Greetings Goddess Advocates Everywhere....

If you missed Z. Budapest on Voices of the Sacred Feminine last Wednesday night at 6PM Pacific/9PM Eastern, then you are still in luck because our interview can be heard at your convenience from the Archives at PIVTR, Passionate Internet Voices Talk Radio. We had a jolly good time talking about Hillary, sexism, her legacy within the Women's Spirituality Movement, Pan Groups for Men's Mysteries.....and lots more!

And coming this Wednesday, June 11 - same time, same place - another leader of the Women's Spirituality Movement will share her thoughts - Barbara Walker. This is an awesome opportunity to hear this prolific author, known to so many of us studying about the Goddess over the decades. Barbara is not one to saturate the airwaves, so you won't want to miss this rare event!

Coming in the following weeks.....

June 18 -- 6PM -- Hillary Hart, Author of The Unknown She
June 25 -- 6PM -- Patrick McCollum, Prominent Wiccan Minister

And coming in August -- JEAN HOUSTON!
And coming in September -- Lady Olivia Robertson of the Fellowship of Isis.

"Voices of the Sacred Feminine" Radio Program LIVE EVERY WEDNESDAY 6pm Pacific or LISTEN from the ARCHIVES ANYTIME!

NEW-AGE GODDESS: SLINKY, SLANKY & Sticky-SWEET

A big basket of thanks to Geraldine Charles, who sent this link from her ezine The Goddess Pages. It explains why we need to tell the Pew Research Study that if they lump the Goddess movement under the New Age movement again, we’re all going to hold our breaths til we turn BLUE.

“The Goddess vs. the New Age: Singing the Sacred Land,” by Jacqui Woodward-Smith (a director of UK's Glastonbury Goddess Temple), says the New Age Goddess is almost identical to YahwehAllahJehovah's* Mary, Mary Magdeline, and all the other sweet, limp-noodle women in the TalmudKoranBible.

The New Age goddess is

O Always young
O Always pretty
O Always ‘innocent’
O Always perky-breasted
O Always light, never dark
O Never the crone
O Never linked with earth, rot or mud (all required for growth and rebirth!)

A few plum cuts from the article:

I … went to a talk … where the speaker described the Crone as “ever beautiful, with an indigo cloak filled with moonbeams and starlight”! Where is the rot and death, the fucking, the shit and the mud? … How are we to understand our lives being torn apart and changed when we are shown a kindly old lady, rather than a powerful primal transforming force?

Monica Sjöö: “ … images of … the Goddess … acceptable in the New Age movement are the … sickly sweet ones …they want docile …Virgin Marys, sweetly smiling while the earth burns.”

The Crone (like the Whore) has retained much of Her primal power because She has been ignored by Christianity, who were able to ‘use’ and (temporarily) pacify the virgin/maiden and the mother ….

Monica Sjoo saw the New Age movement “… as paying lip service to the Goddess and the earth … whilst … stressing the need to become more ‘highly’ evolved and leave the Earth behind. This is the very antithesis of the message of the Goddess who asks us to rejoice in our physical form and in our incarnation on this beautiful planet.

When looking at Doreen Virtue’s ‘Goddess Guidance Oracle Cards' … there are no Crones … no big women, no old women, no ‘ugly’ women, no challenges, no real power. Even the African Goddesses have honey-coloured skin and Western features.

GOD'S BETTER HALF JUST Woke UP

A powerfully down-to-earth Goddess as a Jewish mother is evoked in comedian Sherry Glaser’s performance “Oh my Goddess.”

She features Ma holding forth on the fate of creation since she took a 5000-year-long nap, leaving “your father” in charge of the kids.

“He started acting like he’s the only God in the universe… and let you play with guns and bombs and missiles. Not in my house!” [“God’s better half just woke up, and boy is she mad.” Jessica Werner, San Francisco Chronicle, June 22, 2006]

Glaser told an interviewer that “we are way out of whack on earth, so if we restore the mother and serve, honor, protect, pleasure her, everything will be all right. I do believe that.”
The above came from an excellent article in Goddess Pages by Max Dashu. The article, which is part of a series, is "The Meanings of Goddess - Part 3: Essentialism or Essence? Out from the Land of Theory."

And let's hear a huge round of applause for Geraldine Charles, editor of Goddess Pages -- that ezine is just fabulous. The Summer edition also includes "Even Queens Need a Fairy Godmother," "Bloody Women! A Magical Experience of the Menstrual Cycle," and "Baba Yaga Stories" by Susun Weed.

Great going, Geraldine. Keep us the great work!

Getting back to Max's article: a lot of it is about how academics and feminists begin foaming at the mouth at the mere mention of 'Goddess.' Mention "Mother Goddess," and their eyes roll back into their heads, and the foam coming out of their mouths begins to turn green.

They squeak about Goddess and Mother Goddess being bogeymen who will turn all of us purple and warty in a trice. Their reasoning makes not one iota of sense, but here it is anyway: women are considered crackerheads, so even thinking about Goddess or Mother Goddess will devalue them (women) even more.

I know, I know. Makes no sense whatsoever. If someone’s a crackerhead, you pair hir with what ISN’T crackerhead. Don't you?

I mean, am I nuts here, or what? Talking about their divinity is going to re-value, not de-value women.

You don’t have to read any of the following (lifted from Max’s wonderful article) if you don’t want to, but it’s stuff I want to remember:

I’m alarmed about New Age commodification ... as Goddess culture gets popularized and marketed. Consumerist trendiness and prosperity consciousness corrupt what is genuine.... In more than a few cases, the rush toward “the divine feminine” literally does mean feminine in its most retrograde media form: ... thin, pretty, young, longhaired females, usually white, sticking their breasts out in unnatural positions.... They don’t appear powerful or present in their bodies, but tense, posed, and decorative...."
AND

Myth and ritual have transformative power. Ifi Amadiume describes how Igbo [African] women use them in their oaths of solidarity at shrines, in women’s strikes and collective actions of calling men to account by making them eat fufu and swear oaths at the shrine of the goddess Ala. The Igbo Women’s War of 1929 drew extensively on ritual forms— processions, carrying wands, ceremonial dress of leaves—in its mass protest of British colonial taxes and puppet chiefs...
AND

We’ve been treated to repeated academic warnings of the dangers of “goddess monotheism.” None of the writers flogging this threat concern themselves with the historical monotheism that restricted divinity to a single male god....
AND

Many academic writers feel impelled to deplore the “essentialist” concept of a “mother goddess,” although goddesses were directly known by this title in numerous cultures. Isis notwithstanding, Lotte Motz insists that there was never any Mother Goddess, and goes so far as to claim that “mother” has nothing to do with Kybele’s titles of Great Mother (Magna Mater) and Mother of the Gods (Mater Deum). She writes, “no creature [!] could be further from the celebration of biological motherhood, and the title Magna Mater surely designates her as a great queen.” [Faces of the Goddess, p. 120] This is extreme even for goddess-averse academia….
AND

None of this is to say that “mother” is the only signifier for Goddess.... There are creator goddesses, fates and lawgivers, immanent powers of land, sea, and sky, of fire or clouds, of animals and birds.... However, none of these categories are exclusive of “mother,” and in a great many traditions, this attribute mixes freely and frequently with the others, including some, such as warrior or destroyer, that conflict with the more conservative images of what “mother” might signify. If we look to indigenous religions, “mother” is a truly expansive concept, and a divine one.
AND

The Gouandousou statues of the Bambara display the various and multivalent meanings of Goddess, including the kind academics routinely reject as untenably “essentialist” because of their connection to body mysteries: menstruation, pregnancy and lactation. This is “dangerous” terrain, both in animist terms and in the sexual politics of patriarchy. In Bambara culture (as for countless others) it is a terrain of female potency.

One final note about Max’s article: she’s drenched it with fab examples. In this case, it’s examples of dozens of cultures both past and present heavily saturated with rituals, beliefs, art, music and dance revolving around MOTHER GODDESS. Completely confounding, I’m sure, to all those so-called experts who contend people don’t worship female divinity.

The “No Girls LEFT BEHIND, Boys Can Go Suck” Program

According to MSNBC, in Detroit only 24.9% of students are now making it through high school.

The high school graduation rate was higher in the days of dinosaurs, when kids walked 100 miles both ways over frozen tundra to learn reading, writing and wooly hyena hunting.

And the media is aghast lately at how boys in particular are falling behind in school, with girls using them to mop up the floor.

Has anyone pointed out the obvious? Of course it’s Dubya’s brilliant, unfunded “No Child Left Behind” program, or more to the point, the “No Girls Left Behind, Boys Can Go Suck” Program (NGLB-BCGS Program) that's "behind" all this (no pun intended).

Only someone a total flop in school (Dubya) would push a national school agenda as destined for failure as the NGLB-BCGS Program.

In the book I just finished – The Wednesday Night Witches – one of the main characters muses about a possible connection between No Child Left Behind and the popular Fundie book series, Left Behind, about the apocalypse and who gets to fly to heaven with Jesus and who’s left behind to fry.

The main character, a school teacher, finally breaks out of her stupor and does something creative – at which point her class finally begins to learn things.

Guess with Dubya it’s boys he wants to Leave Behind to fry.

Maybe he shoulda had a few sons insteada all daughters?

Anyway, Goddess help us all in 20 years when the dropouts step up smilingly to remove your gall bladder, build our nuclear reactors, and run the country.

NATALIE MERCHANT, YOU’RE Wrong

As much as I love you, Natalie, you’re dead-ringer wrong on this one:

“People ruthless, people cruel
The damage that some people do
Full of hatred, full of pride
It's enough to make you lose your mind

“I know that it will hurt
I know that it will break your heart
The way things are
The way they've been
And the way they've always been”
Natalie, things have not always “been this way.”

When the Goddess reigned, people were sane and decent. Life was sweet (for everyone, not just a few).

It’s only after the sky & war gods ripped into our lives that things turned twisted and busted.

You need to write a new song, Natalie.

These sky/war warts seemed to pop up first around 4000 BC, east and north of the Mediterranean Sea. (Read: “the birth of the state,” and “Proto-Indo-Europeans”)

After that, the wart-god peoples began pounding on the Goddess peoples. The Goddess peoples dove underground, which is where those still remaining are today (for example, the Moso/Mosuo of China).

I'll be watching for your new song, Natalie. Thnx in advance for writing it.

EVERYTHING’S COMING UP Witches

What’s the Goddess trying to tell me, luvvies? Last month I met LuAnn, whose great, great, great etc. grandmother was hung as a witch on an island off Maine.

This week I accidentally flipped to this old drawing in an 1891 book of poems by Whittier. The poem’s about the daughter of an actual 1600s MA woman hung for witchcraft. Go HERE to read it.

BTW,the book about Luann and her grandmother, The Wednesday Night Witches? Metacool. In places I laughed til I cried. The writing was fresh and exciting. I'm not so sure however how much the author (Lee Nichols) knows about Wicca -- she has the Evil stuff rising up from inside the Earth!

DEEPLY Fastened TO THE MOTHER

I went to the Grandmothers a few days ago in deep distress.

"Grandmothers," I said, …..They are burning
people alive in South Africa. …. People in this country are losing their jobs and homes, China and Myanmar are suffering terribly and the war in Iraq goes on and on....”

The Grandmothers sat on the ground before me, and as I stepped into their circle, spherical waves began to spin around ….

"Anchor yourself," they said…. I saw a wine opener--turning and turning, as it screwed itself into the earth, and as I watched, it was I who was becoming deeply fastened to the Mother.

"Screw yourself deeply to Mother Earth and watch from there," the Grandmothers said. "You won’t be swept away or react to the changes sweeping across the world, and neither will you lull yourself into false security by ignoring the obvious.

"Anchored like this, you will be immune from the panic that is gripping much of the world," they said. "…

…"Give love. Dive into life and serve wherever you can," they said.... “Do not back off now and huddle fearfully in the dark. Dive in!"

JUDITH LAURA on PHEW ON PEW

Because it's so important, I'm bringing this comment by Judith Laura up front into its own post:

Re: Writing to Pew with our comments about their categories. I think it will have more influence if MORE than just one of us writes. Y'all write!!! They give the following email address for comments:
feedback@pewforum.org

I just sent them an email.Although I didn't mention this in my email to them, I think another problem with their data might be that many Pagans, Wiccans, and Goddessians identify with more than one spiritual path, and if they were asked to pick one, might pick the most "conventional" to give to a person taking a survey. For example, a person who is an Unitarian Universalist and also a Wiccan, might just respond, "Unitarian Universalist." These would then given an underestimate of the number of Wiccans (or Goddessians or Pagans). Maybe someone else wants to write to them about this.

Here's what my email to Pew says (please don't copy it word-for-word though because it lessens the impact if they get the exactly the same thing from a lot of different people--use your own words :-)

I would like to point out what I feel are some errors in your categorizations:

1) You have not listed Goddess Religion or Goddess Movement at all. Some Goddessians see their faith as a sub-category of Pagan and others, (particularly those who identify as Goddess Christians or Goddess Jews) see it as a separate category entirely. This religious path has at least hundreds of thousands of participants in the US--and more worldwide.

2) Most Pagans would not consider Paganism a sub-category of New Age. There are some very important distinctions. A good explanation of this, in particular as it relates to contemporary Goddess religion, is on
http://www.goddess-pages.com/Issue1/Articles/GoddessVsNewAge.html

3) Wicca is more accurately a sub-category of Paganism, not a separate category. Many Wiccans would consider its listing as a sub-category of New Age inappropriate.

More on KIDS AS CULINARY CHACHKAS

Just stumbled across another Bible verse about kid-cannibalizing:

Lamentations 2:20 "Look, O LORD, and consider:
Whom have you ever treated like this?
Should women eat their offspring,
the children they have cared for?"

See May 26 post for six other cannibalizing-your-kid Bible verses.

I'm sensing a connection between YAJ's* obsessive hatred of the ancient Mother Goddess, and his obsession with mothers eating their own children.

Can't quite put my finger on it, though.

Got A GIRL IN THE WAR

Welcome to war in the 21st century.

If you need a good, stiff cry, listen to "Got a Girl in the War" in the youtube piece below.

The song was linked to video from the BBC Robin Hood series, with Marian as Robin’s “Girl in the War.”

In the Robin Hood legends, Marian is Goddess. The war she’s fighting is against the Sheriff of Nottingham, who’s bleeding the poor and plotting against everything that’s good about England.

In this BBC series, Marian is the masked “Nightwatchman,” who fights for the poor with a sword when necessary.

Everybody thinks the Nightwatchman is a dude.

“Got a Girl in the War” could almost be a theme song for the Goddess movement. Even though his song is ripe with Biblical stuff (Peter, Paul, angels, keys to the kingdom), the singer says if the angels don’t save his Girl they can “go to hell.”

I think the singer is ready to pitch the god of Abraham out on his noodle. The God of Abraham would have a meltdown at even the mention of women warriors. I think the Goddess on the other hand, demands we (and maybe women especially) fight for right against might.

Robin Hood fights in Marian’s “war” too, of course. But in the 21st-century, Marian is Robin's co-fighter -- in every sense of the word. No doubt about it: Robin can truly say he’s “Got a Girl in the War.”

Second thing that made me cry: America’s “elected” a “leader” who launched a “war” in which women and men both are not only dying, but dying hellishly. But don’t get me started on that.

______________
Song Lyrics
"Peter said to Paul, you know all those words we wrote
Are just the rules of the game, and the rules are the first to go?
But now talking to God is Laurel begging,
Hardy for a gun.
I got a girl in the war, man. I wonder what it is we done?

"Paul said to Peter, you got to rock yourself a little harder.
Pretend the dove from above is a dragon and your feet are on fire.
But I got a girl in the war, Paul. The only thing
I know to do Is turn up the music and pray that she makes it through.

"Because the keys to the Kingdom got lost inside the Kingdom
And the angels fly around in there but we can't see them.
I got a girl in the war Paul, I know that they can hear me yell.
If they can't find a way to help her they can go to Hell
If they can't find a way to help her they can go to Hell

"Paul said to Peter, you got to rock yourself a little harder.
Pretend the dove from above is a dragon and your feet are on fire.
But I got a girl in the war Paul, her eyes are like champagne.
They sparkle bubble over and in the morning all you got is rain
They sparkle bubble over and in the morning all you got is rain
They sparkle bubble over and in the morning all you got is rain"

~ Got a Girl in the War (Josh Ritter)
WELL, WHADDJA THINK? Is violence justifiable if it saves lives -- as it does indeed, in Sherwood Forest? Could this be a theme song for the Goddess Movement -- or does the idea make your toeses and noses freeze over?

KIDS: A Culinary DELIGHT?

QUIZ QUESTION: Number of times the christian bible mentions kids as a dinner dish: ___.

__________________________
ANSWER: At least six different biblical verses are about cannibalizing kids.
(I haven’t read the entire Bible, so I might have missed a few):

EATING YOUR KIDS #1
“And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters.”-- Deuteronomy 28.53

EATING YOUR KIDS #2
“So that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat.”-- Deuteronomy 28.55

EATING YOUR KIDS #3
“This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son tomorrow. So we boiled my son, and did eat him.”-- 2 Kings 6.28-29

EATING YOUR KIDS #4
“And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend.”—Jeremiah 19.9

EATING YOUR KIDS #5
“The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were their meat.”-- Lamentations 4.10

EATING YOUR KIDS #6
“The fathers shall eat the sons in the midst of thee, and the sons shall eat their fathers.”-- Ezekiel 5.10

PLEASE go read previous posts on this blog about “Starvation Culture.” It’s pitifully apparent that the bible is based on a culture set up long ago by psychotic, starving people. One of the behavioral hallmarks of long-term starving peoples is that they often cannibalize their own biological children.

For an explanation of Starvation Culture see the posts on this blog of March 1-8, 2006. Or, preorder a copy of Switching to Goddess, which has a detailed explanation (go to Amazon.com to preorder).

Although I try to keep this blog light, this is heavy stuff. America calls itself a "Christian country." We seem blind to the psychotic sickness we're following.

IMO, no way we'll be anything but psychos ourselves -- until we bump off Jehovah, Yahweh, Allah, Indra and the other sicko gods pumping poison into our planet, into our Mother, the Earth.

If ya can't believe all this is for real, go check out these verses yourself. And if yur 2 tired to root out your hard-copy bible, truck on over to BibleGateway.com.

KIDS & Raw SEAL BLUBBER

From the forthcoming Switching to Goddess: Humanity's Ticket to the Future:

“Can the world really be saved by imagining a different god? Will it cause the Middle East problem to go away? Territoriality? Tradition?

"I believe the world can be saved by 'imagining' different gods. Human children are almost infinitely malleable. If your children had been adopted as infants into certain Inuit groups, they’d be eating raw seal blubber marbled with blood and brains – all without batting an eye. They’d think nothing about making red paint by mixing urine and blood – after puncturing the insides of their nostrils to collect the blood (Oswalt 1967: 157).

"If your children had been adopted by the Semai of Southeast Asia the thought of hitting people would carry the same horror as the idea of killing them (Dentan 1979: 58). If your children had been adopted by the !Kung of southern Africa they’d turn down a bushel load of Halloween candy for a handful of roasted caterpillar skins (Shostak 1983: 99). If we reared our children in places where violent deities had been buried, and mother-love deities were visible everywhere and pointed to as the quintessential role models, I’m convinced we could save the planet. Territoriality and tradition are merely ideas we teach the next generation – or not."

Switching to Goddess will be published in late November of this year.

Break MY TEETH (BUT BE PRETTY ABOUT IT)

Never let it be said the Christian Book of Psalms is not a book of beauty.

Sit back, relax, and be prepared for pure poetical bliss:

"That thy foot may be dipped in the blood of thine enemies, and the tongue of thy dogs in the same.-- 68.23

"Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.-- 137.9

"Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.-- 109.10

"Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces.-- 2.9

"He teacheth my hands to war.-- 18.34

"The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.-- 58.10

"Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake.-- 69.23

"To him that smote Egypt in their firstborn: for his mercy endureth for ever.-- 136.10 [“Huh?” Sound of Athana scratching her head]

And last but not least, My personal fave:

"Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth."-- 58.6

Phew ON PEW, I SAY!

Re: the Goddess Movement, the recent “Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life's survey on American religion” dropped the ball.

At least they had a Pagan category. Guess they lumped us in with Thor and the rest of the old war gods.

Gee, thanks, dudes.

According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, the Pew study “is one of the most careful and comprehensive ever conducted on the American religious landscape.”

Uh, excuse, but I don't think so. They left out the Goddess!

One biggie thingy the Pew study did expose, however, is this: “…it is becoming increasingly obvious that the term ‘Judeo-Christian’ no longer makes sense, given how many Americans are neither.”

While American kiddies are running from the Protestants like a chocolate bunny runs from a hot day in Dallas, not so with American Hindu and Muslim kids. Among Hindus, 76% are under the age of 50. Among Muslims the number is 63% under 50.

So Pew Study sits back, taps its hoary chin, and opines thusly: “As far as the young are concerned, the prospects for a Protestant majority, let alone a Moral Majority, seem bleak.”

Hm. I wonder what this says for the Goddess Movement? Will it be Hindus and Muslims our grandkids duke it out with? Should we be concentrating harder on opening the eyes of American Hindus and Muslims to the Great Goddess?

If we convince them their parents’ gods are deadly, could and would they share that info with Muslims and Hindus in the rest of the world?

BTW, to go to the horse’s mouth re: the Pew Study, jog on over to HERE.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT Witches

What a day!

My Aunt Evelyn Sayers returned to the Goddess today. Never had much contact with Aunt Evie, and what I had wasn’t always easy.

Nevertheless, I can’t help feeling as if Evie's all around us now, a part of the Great Mother Herself, and incapable of anything but love, laughter, and celestial humor.

Aunt Evie, I love you. I know you’re in a place of deep peace and joy. Please bless all of us here on the earth plane.

Also today, my path crossed with a descendant of one of the witches murdered in the Salem witch trials.

Luann grew up on a Maine island and is blessed with psychic abilities – probably the same her Salem ancestor had. She’s an English major at the University of Southern Maine and edits for authors as a way of beefing up her resume for future post-grad jobs. One of the writers she’s edited for – Lee Nichols -- wrote a book based on her life: The Wednesday Night Witches.

This afternoon at my kitchen table, Luann and I shot the breeze about Salem witches, witchcraft, the Orion Belt, writing, editing, and what Luann sees as the ignorance of northern Maine (but what I see as Goddess-ignorance that criss-crosses not just Maine, but the whole of North America).

Love 2 u all!

WHAT THE WORLD Needs NOW

The world is in desperate need of Mother Goddess.

To most this proclamation will sound like an abomination.

That’s because for the past six millennia the world has been brainwashed to recoil with horror from its own best self interest – a larger-than-life role model revolving around unconditional love.

But several millennia ago, civilizations did guide themselves with Mother Goddesses.

And they were the last warless, classless and psychologically healthy civilizations the world has ever known.

Walking DOWN A SIDEWALK BACKWARDS

From Daily Kos:

"Having gotten their butts kicked for 150 years in science and their clocks cleaned over the last 40 years in court, anti-science goons have reached deep into their black bag of tricks and pulled out a new gimmick called Academic Freedom Bills.

"By academic freedom, they mean a teacher is free to teach creationism (or ostensibly anything else in any other subject), and the student is free to blow off mastering the curricula and answer any question or complete any homework assignment using whatever variant of right-wing anti-science nonsense they dream up." MORE>>>

Academic Freedom? Yay! If we're all free to tinker with the hallowed halls of academe, I'd like a course on How to Walk Down a Sidewalk Backwards and Not Trip.

And while we're at it, let's get this course on the books ASAP: Flying to the Moon on My Green Umbrella 101.

And -- oh! oh! oh! One on How to Get Even with Nurse Rachet When She Sticks Me with That Needle!

THE SWEETEST PARENTS Break YOUR BONES

The latest on the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, that Mormon sect shut down by Texas for child abuse:

Out of 464 kids, at least 41, some of them ''very young,'' have evidence of broken bones.

They haven’t checked out all the kids yet, so chances are that 41 is a low kids-with-broken-bones figure.

What I don’t understand is this: Why is everyone going google-eyed over this?

The kids with the broken bones were probably stubborn.

And the Bible says if your kid is stubborn, ya stone him to death.

So these are some of the sweetest parents on the planet. All they did was break a few bones.

Pagans & DUBYA’S FAITH-BASED INITIATIVE

Think there’s a cat’s chance in hell a Pagan group could capture one of Dubya’s “Faith-Based Initiative” grants? Excuse me for a moment [HAHAHAHAHAHAH, AHAHAHAHAH -- hiccup -- HA AHARDY HAR HAR!]. Ahem. Better, now.

If so, take a gander at this:

“… faith-based grant applications were supposed to be reviewed by a White House panel in a ‘religiously neutral fashion,’ but … the panel's ratings were ‘a farce’…. One panel member [said]: "When I saw one of those non-Christian groups in the set I was reviewing, I just stopped looking at them and gave them a zero [out of a possible 100]…’” [from a letter I got recently from the Interfaith Alliance].

THE GODDESS AND Agape

Just for fun today, I shot “ancient Goddess” and “agape” together into Scroogle's search box.

After clicking on the search button and waiting a beat, a list of articles popped onto my computer screen. At the very top of the list was an article about the book The Giuliana Legacy, by Alexis Masters.

Well, after reading only a few reviews, I felt compelled to stop and order a copy. Here, from four different reader reviewers, are some snippets about what looks like a must-have Goddess book:

“As a freelance editor, for personal and professional reasons I generally do not review books I have worked on, but there are a very few novels for which I make exceptions because for me they are exceptional. More than well crafted novels, they are work that is outside the box in some rare and moving way that broadens my mind and deepens my soul personally and professionally…”

“One of the best stories I've read about the Goddess. I loved the idea that a thoroughly modern woman is suddenly forced to face herstory and discovers she's the hereditary head of an ancient religion….”

“While reading, there were times when I was in tears , times when I was on the edge of my seat, and times when I was in a dream-like trance….”

“The Giuliana Legacy is better that the Mists of Avalon at introducing the ancient Goddess religion and its mysteries of love.”

Whiny OLD WOMAN

Got this story today from my brother, about a whiny old woman:

“Dear Sis Athana,

Below is an actual letter sent to a bank by an 86-year-old woman. The bank manager thought it amusing enough to have it published in the New York Times:

“Dear Sir:

“I am writing to thank you for bouncing my check with which I endeavored to pay my plumber last month. By my calculations, three nanoseconds must have elapsed between his presenting the check and the arrival in my account of the funds needed to honor it.

“I refer, of course, to the automatic monthly deposit of my entire pension, an arrangement which, I admit, has been in place for only eight years.

You are to be commended for seizing that brief window of opportunity, and also for debiting my account $30 by way of penalty for the inconvenience caused to your bank.

“My thankfulness springs from the manner in which this incident has caused me to rethink my errant financial ways.

“I noticed that whereas I personally answer your telephone calls and letters, --- when I try to contact you, I am confronted by the impersonal, overcharging, pre-recorded, faceless entity which your bank has become.

“From now on, I, like you, choose only to deal with a flesh-and-blood person. My mortgage and loan repayments will therefore and hereafter no longer be automatic, but will arrive at your bank, by check, addressed personally and confidentially to an employee at your bank whom you must nominate.

“Be aware that it is an offense under the Postal Act for any other person to open such an envelope. Please find attached an Application Contact which I require your chosen employee to complete. I am sorry it runs to eight pages, but in order that I know as much about him or her as your bank knows about me, there is no alternative.

“In due course, at MY convenience, I will issue your employee with a PIN number which he/she must quote in dealings with me. I regret that it cannot be shorter than 28 digits but, again, I have modeled it on the number of button presses required of me to access my account balance on your phone bank service. As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Let me level the playing field even further. When you call me, press buttons as follows:

IMMEDIATELY AFTER DIALING, PRESS THE STAR (*) BUTTON FOR ENGLISH

#1. To make an appointment to see me.
#2. To query a missing payment.
#3. To transfer the call to my living room in case I am there.
#4. To transfer the call to my bedroom in case I am sleeping.
#5. To transfer the call to my toilet in case I am attending to nature.
#6. To transfer the call to my mobile phone if I am not at home.
#7. To leave a message on my computer, a password to access my computer is required. Password will be communicated to you at a later date to that Authorized Contact mentioned earlier.
#8. To return to the main menu and to listen to options 1 through 7.
#9. To make a general complaint or inquiry. The contact will then be put on hold, pending the attention of my automated answering service.
#10. This is a second reminder to press* for English. While this may, on occasion, involve a lengthy wait, uplifting music will play for the duration of the call.

“Regrettably, but again following your example, I must also levy an establishment fee to cover the setting up of this new arrangement. May I wish you a happy, if ever so slightly less prosperous New Year?

“Your Humble Client’”
Frankly, I’m kinda buzzed out about people like this old woman. Always whining about how banks aren’t nice to her. Jeez! I mean, she’s just the customer! Banks and other Very Big Businesses aren’t around to kowtow to her!

Sure, in her day businesses made customers feel like the King. But that’s only cuz they had to. Back then, there were so many businesses -- all trying to sell the same thing -- that a dude HADDA kiss the customer’s foot -- or the customer’d go pop her wad at someone else’s store.

But then ol’ daddy Ronnie Reagan wrangled his way into the White House. Thankfully, Daddy let a few of his buds suck up all the competition. Now, today, there’s only one or two dudes owning everything. And they don’t have to suck up to anyone!

Now isn’t that the way life was meant to be? Aren’t we supposed to love our (Big) Brother?

GRIM RAPERS Ride AGAIN

I’m so sorry to say that while YAJ* clergy routinely rape the powerless, the YAJ power structure routinely looks the other way. Now here’s a dude who says, “Geezum! Sorry! That’s just the way religious power structures are!”

“Other examples of reprehensible behavior on the part of the Orthodox … involve Orthodox authorities shielding rabbis known to have sexually abused teenagers and children from exposure and prosecution…. Considering that Roman Catholic authorities did likewise …, one can see that the problem is endemic in religious authority structures….” Go HERE for more.
Excuse, please. Maybe that’s how YAJ power structures are, but dude! Don’t dump this dirt on the rest of us! I have yet to get wind of one Goddess priestess/priest who’s raped anything – let alone a child (Goddess forbid!).

What’s more, the Goddess world frowns upon “authority structures” and “power structures” both. Each is a sickness residing in the world of YAJ. And each shoves the Goddess world apart from the blighted, bloated world of YAJ, a world that works night and day to convince us that in the religion department, there’s nothing else for sale but YAJ.

Not.

Don’t buy it for a minute. Don’t be hoodwinked by this war to warp your mind. YAJ is not the only religion around, by far.

As a matter of fact, YAJ is not a religion at all. YAJ is a control system, one dead set on controlling you, your mind and your body – a control system so wacko it’s waltzing the whole planet into oblivion.

So for Goddess’ sake, dear readers, don’t ever buy what YAJ has for sale.

For a fuller explanation of all of this, read my book, Switching to Goddess: Humanity’s Ticket to the Future, out for sale in November of this year. Buy it either at Amazon.com or O-books.com, take your pick.

FATHER GODS Fall SHORT AGAIN

Today we take another peek at the underbelly of the beast calling itself “father god.”

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: April 8, 2008

ELDORADO, Texas - More than 400 children, mostly girls in pioneer dresses, were swept into state custody from a polygamist sect in what authorities described Monday as the largest child-welfare operation in Texas history.

SNIP

The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, headed by [Warren] Jeffs after his father's death in 2002, broke away from the Mormon church after the latter disavowed polygamy more than a century ago.

SNIP

Jeffs is jailed in Kingman, Ariz., where he awaits trial for four counts each of incest and sexual conduct with a minor stemming from two arranged marriages between teenage girls and their older male relatives.

In November, he was sentenced to two consecutive sentences of five years to life in prison in Utah for being an accomplice to the rape of a 14-year-old girl who wed her cousin in an arranged marriage in 2001.

This feels like ripping the Father’s sheep mask off and coming face to face with the real blood-eyed monster, snaggle teeth blood-smeared, breath stinking with the stale blood of hundreds of thousands of women and children it’s consumed for lunch for the past several centuries.

3 KINDS OF Humans?

Today I stumbled across an interesting bit of tid I know you'll all wanna hear:

According to Plato, who got it from Aristophanes, once upon a time three kinds of humans hustled about the earth: males, females and androgynes.

Each bristled with multiple limbs: four legs and four arms for each of these fabulous critters.

But alas & alack, all three types of honeys got too sassy for the gods, so the gods split them all in two.

From the females, came lesbians.

From the males came gay men.

And from the androgynes blossomed heterosexual men and hetero women.

And the reason all of us make love? Out of a deep, primordial urge to recreate our original, eight-limbed ancestors.

Goddess & THE GOOD GODS

In a world where Goddesses swim at the center, what role should male gods play?

In his fine comments re: my March 11 post, Mandos suggests that male gods should somehow relate to the male role in procreation.

But is this really a top-notch, primo role for guy gods? Could there be better roles? If deities are models for how we want to treat each other, the earth, and everything on it, what male god would be best?

1. The Mother Goddess’s lover?
2. Mother’s hubbie?
3. Mother’s son?
4. Mother’s friend?
5. One who helps Mother care for and protect the kiddies?
6. One who watches over the community and keeps it safe?
7. A Dionysian-type dude in charge of good times?
8. All of the above?
9. None of the above?

Of course there’s no getting around it: since daddy-war gods such as Jehovah, Allah, Yahweh, Zeus and others punched most of our good male gods into the dust long ago, we are forced to find new ones.

Personally, I think which gods we settle on should rest on what kinda world we want to live in.

For example, among the marriage-less Moso of China, the main male god is not the Mother Goddess’ hubbie, but her lover -- ‘cause the Moso put marriage in the same category with the 24/7 ingestion of red-hot, skin-dissolving chile peppers.

But among the daddy-war-god ancient Greeks, the main guy-god had a wife he treated like the floor of a pigpen.

And the early Indo-Europeans’ main god was a dirt-bag who incested his daughter, Usas, Goddess of the Dawn.

So unless we are dying for incester, rapist, and child-molester men, or dudes who’d rather slice rice all day than marry, I’d suggest we avoid gods such as the above.

But floating around out there are lotsa fine dude-gods with “pick me, pick me!” written all over them. Some of my fave are the helper, guardian and protector gods. Take Koyote of Native American fame, for example, or Faivarongo of the Polynesian Tikopia, or Tokoyoto of the Koryak of SE Siberia. And then there are Osande, the elderly guardian god of the Ovimbundu of SW Africa (Angola), and Tanuta, also of the Koryak, and guardian of the earth, plants and animals.

A great old Chinese child-guardian god, Chang Hs’ien, is sometimes shown aiming an arrow at the earth-threatening dog star, Tien Kou (Jordan, Encyclopedia of the Gods, p. 54).

And then there’s the Aztec Huehuecoyotl, “god of sexual lust,” as author Michael Jordan puts it in The Encyclopedia of Gods.

So, zee qvestion of zee veek, liebchen, eeze, “What other dude gods model the kinda human dudes you’d like to see walking the earth today?”

IN A Nutshell

To fix things we need to dump the father/war/sky gods and plug healthy Life-Models in the empty places left behind. And a grand life-model is Goddess. She’s what we used to use – when we lived in Paradise.

Goddess makes sense: mothers bear us, not fathers. We all come from mother goddesses, not father gods.

If you want proof that the major world gods today were just phonies made up to control people, all ya hafta do is think about the idea of male gods giving birth.

Excuse me, please [Bwahahahahahaha! Hahahaha! BwaHa!]

Okay, better now [wiping tears from her eyes].

Of course males can’t make babies, so many ancient male gods had to make up stuff – hilarious stuff, like making babies from ribs. Or having them pop out of daddy's head, like Zeus did with Athena. Or out of their penisis, mouths or armpits.

Goddesses -- especially mother goddesses -- will make super healthy role models for us. Why? Bbecause healthy mothers are natural, unconditional lovers of their children.

If we treat each other the way healthy mums treat their kids -- voila! We solve most of what ails us.

Spanking THE CHRISTIAN RIGHT

Another new book out slashing at YAJ* and his hooey hooligans, and exposing the danger they pose to our health, welfare and wellbeing:

God's Profits: Faith, Fraud, and the Republican Crusade for Values Voters by Sarah Posner and Joe Conason (Hardcover - Jan 22, 2008)

* Sarah Posner has produced the definitive expose of America's leading "prosperity gospel" preachers. With direct access to the Bush White House and Republican lawmakers, these televangelists have injected their Armageddon-based agenda into U.S. foreign policy…. --- Max Blumenthal ---

* Sarah Posner introduces us to the stars of a new evangelical movement who have declared welfare Satanic, poverty a religious curse, and redistribution of wealth "contrary to the word of God."... --- Esther Kaplan --- [Yes, yes, remember that passage where Jesus says "Let the poor eat cake!"?]

* God's Profits is an astounding tale of religious hucksterism--and its role in politics…. It features a cast of charlatans, demagogues, con men, and the pols and presidents who pander to them. It is also a window on the rise of the Bush family dynasty and details how John Hagee, Rod Parsley, and their ilk treat faith as a cheap political commodity on its behalf. --- Frederick Clarkson ---

Sitting AT THE FOOT OF THE MOUNTAIN

Two women - 101 and 91 years old - put us younger women to shame as they say why they voted for Hillary.

Woman number 2: I watched when Hillary "had to climb up the rough side of the mountain." I saw her respond with "courage, strength, dignity, discipline and patience. With determination she got to the top again, polished like gold...."

But how did I decide to vote for her? I "looked at what our needs are. America our country is down at the foot of the mountain. We need someone with experience, someone who's ready, willing and able to bring America back up again -- polished like gold."

Question of the day: Why is it mostly older women who have courage to support women? Male newscasters are kinder (somewhat) to Hillary than female newscasters -- who often seem to race to see who can slime Hillary with the ooziest of ooze.

To date, Harvard women lead the pack: Obama advisor Samantha Power, in a public forum, called Hillary a quote-unquote "monster."

C'mon, Sam! What's Hillary done to deserve that handle? Sounds to me, more than anything else, like a bit of self-loathing.

Calling ALL CATHOLICS: COME HOME TO MAMA

My Dearest of Catholics,

Deep in your heart you know it's true. Poppa Pope is an old boy who belongs in the Ice Age. He has a frozen heart, just like all the phonies who’ve tried, for 2000 years, to convince you that Mary isn’t the Great Mother Goddess, the true center of the Universe.

So come on. Come home to Mama. She adores you. That father/son/ghost thingie is as phony as a three-dollar bill. Fathers don’t birth anything. They don’t feed you from their bodies. What a bill of goods we’ve all been sold!

And Jeesh! You’ve tried to compromise! You’ve tried to work with the daddy/son/ghost rule book (aka bible) -- despite the fact that it’s crammed full of violence, war, torture, misogyny, and just purely primitive desert-deity hogwash. (Go HERE for a short list of cruelty in the Bible -- but don’t go if you’re short on time.)

All you’ve asked is that instead of always daddy/son/ghost, you can sometimes use words like “creator,” “redeemer,” and “sanctifier.”

But Poppy Popie says no. Go sit in a corner and don’t leave until you promise always to say “daddy, son, and holy (masculine) ghost,” says Poppy.

Earlier this week, "The Vatican said anyone baptised under the [above] feminist [sic] terms could invalidate their marriage.”

And, “Cardinal Urbano Navarrete ... gave warning that anyone who attempted to baptise someone with a gender-neutral form would be penalised.” (Go HERE to see more of this amazing March 3rd article).

Lighten up boyz! Get used to it! You’re dinosaurs in a world beginning to smell your prehistoric, rancid breath and get brief glimpses of your green-glowing, lizardy eyes.

Since you don’t have long, why not just sit back and prop your dogs up? Chill, dudes! Why give yourselves ulcers on your way out?

Lovingly Yours,
Athana

Wincing OVER BAUBO

I admit it: I’m conflicted. Three posts ago I wrote about “happy” goddesses. Because she was on the list, I included the Goddess Baubo. I hate to discriminate.

On the other hand, I’m a firm believer in the notion that the human body, male and female, is sacred. And then Baubo waltzes in making the body profane – in the worst sense of the word: the swearing, soggy, sordid sense.

But is Baubo for real? Or is she a war-god makeover of some ancient sensual goddess who made the war gods blush? (The war gods are as uptight about the body as a tick about burning match heads.)

Maybe she made them sweat so much they had to discredit her.

I’m thinking of Usas, one of the few goddesses allowed into the earliest war-god pantheons (the proto-Indo-European).

Usas didn’t really do much. All she “did” was get raped by her daddy, the PIE Father God, whose name was Dieus, forerunner of Zeus and a whole host of other Indo-European Daddy Gods, way back when.

Although Dieus’ great, great, grandbaby Zeus raped grown women, the books rarely tell ya that Zeus' great, great grandaddy was a pedophile and an incestor. (By “incestor” I mean someone who commits incest; according to my online dictionary, “incestor” is not a word. I don't know why; seems like a perfectly good one to me.)

The war-god dudes did a number on all the goddesses they ran across (or should I say “over”). Is Baubo just one more war-god casualty?

Or is she some kind of shadow-side deity, a kind of once-a-year-let-your-hair-down kind of goddess, or one that serves as some kind of psychological letting-off-steam spicket?

But then why don’t we hear about male gods who have eyes at the end of their penes, and who “tell rude jokes” from their “fannies”? Or do we? Are there such gods I don’t know about?

So dear readers, I'm curious: What are your feelings about Baubo?

YAJ: BIG Blowhard in the BACKWATER?

Is YAJ (YahwehAllahJehovah)* just a big blowhard who’s on the down tick? Writer Alan Wolfe thinks so.

In his look at the state of religion all over the world (“The Coming Religious Peace,” The Atlantic), Wolfe says the world is getting not more, but less religious.

Interesting tidbits

ATHEISTS ON THE RISE IN AMERICA

“Some signs indicate that the Christian right may be losing steam, or at least moderating, as a political force. Nonbelief, meanwhile, is increasing: not only are atheist manifestos selling in large numbers, but the percentage of those who express no religious preference to pollsters doubled between 1990 and 2001, to 15 percent.”

YOUTUBE AND TELEVANGELISM HIT THE MIDEAST

“Americans worried about the clash of civilizations tend to focus on those forms of Islam called salafist…. Perhaps they should focus more attention on Muslim religious leaders like Amr Khaled, an Egyptian televangelist now living much of the year in England. Combining idealistic themes of self-empowerment with prosperity movement themes of self-improvement, Khaled appeals to young people….

“So does Mustafa Hosni, a young Egyptian whose YouTube videos bring messages of self-fulfillment and spiritual renewal to jeans-clad Muslims in both Europe and the Middle East.”
________
*Although most of the world mistakes him for three distinct godlets, YahwehAllahJehovah (YAJ) is really only one entity, a primitive desert war deity who's swamped our planet and helps keep it perennially at war.
