Sweet AS PEACHES

I've been calling Senators across the entire country today, and finding that it's not that hard to do! The people answering the phones at almost every Senator’s office sound like 13-year old girls -- high pitched, sweet little voices, kinda breathy -- nice as peaches. And all you say is "I'm calling to urge the Senator to support a filibuster against Samuel Alito."

OR

"I'm calling to urge the Senator to support a filibuster against the nomination of Sam Alito to the Supreme Court."

And you really need only one phone number to call any senator in the country: 1-888-355-3588. I guess that’s the White House switchboard.

So, you dial 1-888-355-3588 and you wait for the nice operator to answer (always a woman), and then you say, "I'd like the office of Senator Durbin, please." And they say, "Thank you, just one moment." And then you get the nice sweet 13-year-old, and you say, "I'd like to leave a message for Senator Durbin, please." And she'll say, "Okay!" And then you give your message. And voila! You're done.

So now, your homework assignment: First, call your own Senators. If they’re Democrats, urge them to support a filibuster. If they’re Republicans urge them to vote for Alito. And if you’re from Maine, Rhode Island or Alaska, your Republican Senators are sounding like they might vote against Alito. So urge them to vote no AND to support a filibuster.

That’s if you want a B on your homework. If you want an A, call the Democrats who are leading the battle against Alito and urge them to support a filibuster:

Harry Reid (NV)
Dick Durbin (IL)
Chuch Schumer (NY)
Debbie Stabenow (MI)
Pat Leahy (VT)

Now it is true that a couple of times the D.C. operators told me that a particular Senator's line was busy. So if you can't get through, and you want to earn an A++ from me on this assignment, look up the Senator's District Office number in your phone book or HERE.
Have fun!
