Slippery Slope?

Apparently, our ski resorts here in Maine aren't the only places with slippery slopes. Here's one in the making, and it slopes toward religious totalitarianism:

"Some members of Congress and the Bush administration are campaigning to allow taxpayer funds to be used for religious discrimination. The so-called 'faith-based initiatives,' otherwise known as 'charitable choice,' seek to grant religious social service providers – who have long provided admirable and essential services to America's communities – the right to discriminate, proselytize and play by different rules than other charities while spending tax dollars. If these efforts are successful, social workers, psychologists, counselors, teachers, and others seeking to work in tax-funded social service programs could be denied jobs solely because of their faith."

The Bush administration is intent on redefining accepted norms in the Constitution, almost like pre-empting the Supreme Court. The administration's interpretation of the doctrine of "equal in the eyes of the law" seems seriously flawed and biased, in keeping with its policies in general
