THE POISON WE Hate TO LOVE: TESTOSTERONE

I suspect being born with too much testosterone ... is like being born with any other disease: it creams you (not to mention your neighborhood).

Think rape, incest, assault and battery, Big Money, the military-industrial complex, Anne Coulter ("I'm more of a man than any liberal").

Depending on the skankiness of your case, you should be hospitalized from birth until you're cured.

And I'm talking, here, about males and females both. (Fascinating factoid # 1,234: chug on over to any jail, and you'll find more testosterone in the women's ward than in women outside.)

But ... can we tell yet how much testosterone the baby-you will get socked with at puberty?

Unfortunately, with testosterone, we might have to wait until teen time to intercept the overdosed.

Whaddja think? Right now, the testosterone-challenged are overrepresented in our jails. What if we caught them early and gave them extra training?

I suspect the Mother Goddess is saying, "ID these dudes early, and train them out of trouble!

  1. Interesting theory - I like it. This coupled with a patriarchal society which actively encourages the breeding, growth and expression of 'testoterone' as some kind of desirable 'maleness' (cos if you haven't got enough you are a sissy) means that we (women and the earth) are in big trouble, as you know.
    Great post. xx

  2. Hi, I like your site. You mentioned Ann Coulter -- is there anyone I hate more? She is repugnant and makes men look bad . . . er, worse.

  3. One thing I like about this idea is that it doesn't fix us forever on the old 1950s school playground. You know, boy's side versus girl's side? Men vs women? Male vs female?

What this does is pinpoint a specific *thing* that can be worked on. A hormonal imbalance. Just like depressed people have a hormonal imbalance, some people have testosterone imbalances. So let's fix the imbalance.

  4. luna,

I don't see Ms. Anne very often on the TV networks I watch, but I keep hearing about the off-the-wall stuff she says. I find her hard to take seriously. But I guess she's swaying people toward agreeing with the testosterone-poisoned bunch who seem to be running the world now, and that is worrisome.

  5. Dear wtf?

You advertised yourself as "testosterone" in Flickr (or at least the foto you're in was labeled as such), and now I think I see why. You sound like someone with testosterone poisoning.

Your liberal use of the violent word "fuck" (used twice in a collection of under 40 words), is an indication to me that you either want to sound like a mack truck, and/or you live in some kind of nether world I wish didn't exist.

I'm glad you posted here, though, because it gives my readers a chance to observe an actual example of testosterone poisoning.

Note, people, how wtf's vocabulary is severely limited to the scatalogical: violent words for love making; slang terms for bodily functions that most people seem to want to keep fairly private about.

Almost every word he uses is found on the 1st 100 words kindergarten teachers teach kindergarten students -- one syllable words that are the simplest and oldest in the English language.

Note how he's read through the post several times yet has no idea what it says. Testosterone overdoses can affect cognitive functioning, and this certainly does appear to be what's happened to wtf?

I'm sorry I'm going to have to delete the foto wtf?'s in; at least one of the men in it looks like he has a sense of humor (and a lack of testosterone poisoning). I think wtf? must be the other guy.

I'm going to leave the link to the foto however, where it exists on flickr, so you can go see a picture of an actual testosterone-poisoned individual. (My guess is he's the dude on the right.)

Well said! Game, set and match! One might also wonder if the hairstyle isn't compensating for something!

    XX4EVA!

    Blessed be!

Using somebody else's work without attribution is lame, regardless of how eloquently you can defend yourself on your own blog.

  8. I agree, dr. j. Who did that? It wasn't me.

  9. It's true, Athana, you did give attribution, but unfortunately the license on all of my photographs is all rights reserved. That means you have no right to copy the photo even with attribution, you need explicit permission from the artist. You clearly don't understand this though since you took yet another photo with all rights reserved and posted it in place of my photo. I think you should wrap your head around the legality of reposting random clips from the internet before you publish your book.

  10. warzauwynn, you are absolutely right. I need to be more respectful of your right to share your photos however you wish to share them.

Apparently you want to charge people for the rights to use them, and are waiting for them to be "discovered" by someone who would be willing to pay you to publish them somewhere?

How much do you plan to charge for your individual photos?

Do you know what people pay for the use of photos like yours?

Or do you just want to confine your photos to one site (Flickr) and hope a few people will stumble by and enjoy them?

Just curious. What *is* your motive for "reserving all rights" to your photos?

Thanks for your concern about the images in my book. Those I needed, however, aren't on the internet. Most are owned by museums in Europe.

  12. Anatha, why do you think that just because I take photographs I have the intent to sell them? I may have sold several photos of mine, but that's not the point. Photography is my passion and if I never sell another photo I'll still be happy sharing the beauty of the world with people who want to see it through my eyes.

As for confining my photos to Flickr, I've sold more prints to people who have seen them in real life than digitally on Flickr.

And now I have a question for you. Why do you always sound so condescending? Who are you to question the motives behind my hobby and artistic outlet?

    ReplyDelete
  13. warz, Who am I to question you? I'm the owner of this blog. Who are you to come into my 'house' and question *me*?

You're getting close to being plunked onto my people-to-delete list, for lack of manners.

The point of my questioning was this: If your real motive is to share your photos, then you'd love it when you were lucky enough to have someone like me post them to an additional venue -- one visited by at least 200 people a week.

You obviously don't know your own mind.

  16. Please remove immediatly the image of the white bull that you have misused and without my permission.

You should know that this is ill mannered and I am not happy about your behavour.

It seems that you have developed a habit of 'nicking' photographs without permission so I urge you to stop this unpleasant practice.

    Please do it now.

    Thank you.

  17. What, Novice, you're turning down free advertising?

At no charge to you, I'm sending hundreds of viewers to your pages at flickr, to view your beautiful photography.

Of course, if you want to hide your considerable light under a bushel....

As it is, your photos are hidden away in virtual drawers, where they're seen by a scant handful of other photographers. Again, if that's what you're after, its' your choice. I notice that a total of four have left glowing comments about your bull photo (not counting Warz, who came only to inform you that 100-200 more were seeing it on my blog, and that you should go bananas over that fact).

I would love to keep your photo on my site. However, there are thousands more that would work just as well in its place. Yours was just one of the first I came across as I was hunting for good work to illustrate one of my posts.

Rest assured I am making no money from the use of your photo. Although the fact that a publisher asked me to write a book about my blog might suggest to you that I *am* making money from your photo (since I'm now telling my blog readers about the book), there's an extremely weak link between your one photo, and the sales I will make on the book via what I say about it here at RGT. Both I and my publisher will do an immense amount and variety of advertising -- almost none of it on this blog.

And I by no means use any of the photos on my blog in my book.

So tell me again: do you want me to delete your foto, and the link I provide to your other photos, which will allow potentially thousands to view not just your bull, but all your photos? If so, I will do so happily. It will give me a chance to look again through all the great photos out there on the internet. Actually, I enjoy selecting the photos for this blog almost than writing the posts themselves.

    Please let me know.

Hi sorry to have been so long in responding but a friend has once again drawn my attention to your use of my photograph.
What has annoyed me is the fact that you took it upon yourself to use the image without the courtesy of asking me. If asked I would no doubt have agreed but it feels like being mugged and that is not nice as I am sure you must appreciate.
Please ask, if there is a next time, meanwhile, in the spirit of the season, you may use this image which seems a bit of a fatuous gesture as you have already nicked it. Please remember to ask me or any other would be contributor for their permission and I am sure a polite request will be met with an equally polite response. We would be photographers spend a lot of time trying to take decent photographs and simply would like that effort recognised

I sincerely wish you a Happy and thoughtful New Year.

    Margaret (the mugged!)

Hey, doubt anyone will read this at this point but I still think it ought to be said. I have no idea who the guy with the hair is in the photo link that you posted but I do know the other guy, his name is Mark Shuttleworth. I think it's just a little unfair of you to simply harvest pictures off the internet and assume that the people in them are prime examples of whatever point you're trying to make. Shuttleworth is actually a really awesome guy, he wrote a piece of software that was so ingenious that an American company paid him 1 billion dollars (!)for it. Now I would imagine that most people who had just acquired $1bil would simply buy a Ferrari and retire to a private island or something equally selfish, but Mark instead decided to funnel almost all of that money into developing solutions to help people in underprivileged, 3rd world societies get access to computers and the internet. In doing so he created Ubuntu Linux (Ubuntu means togetherness) one of the best implementaions of the free operating system created to date. He has sponsored various free educational initiatives in South Africa and has just generally been an all round nice guy. All of this has been done using money that he could have just kept for himself.

While I respect your right to express your opinion on your blog, I really think you ought to get your facts straight before judging people purely on your uninformed interpretation of a single photograph. If you do you are guilty of the same crime as men who judge women purely on how they look, and not who they are.
